Freddie takes Route 66 to Championship

The record books had to be re-written this week.
Not content with registering a record score for the Club Championship with a final round of 66 less than a fortnight ago, Fred Jewsbury recorded a gross 64 in the medal this week, which takes him to a plus one handicap.
Leading in the Club Championship after the first round with a comparibly modest 73, with his nearest challenger Tim Davis just one back, Fred flew into a commanding lead after 9 holes with 7 birdies. Although set for a winning score at this point, a steady back nine with a birdie on 17 and an up and down 4 on the last was more than enough to take the Centenary Championship with a score of 66 to add to the morning round.Andy Colley was runner up with 147, and Rob Whitney, pictured with Fred and the Chairman, in 3rd place with 150. Rob's round earned him the Chairman's Cup with a net score of 138. A feature of the day was the speed of the greens and the new gold tees, introduced by the Green Chairman specifically for this competition.
Fred has certainly achieved a significant record but is still some little way short of grandfather Cyril's record of 8 wins in this competition, with Fred rightly recognising this feat in his thank you speech. A grand day enjoyed by all.PLEASE see the Gallery for more photos, including some courtesy of Chris Royle.
